21st March was proclaimed by the United Nations as world’s International Day of Forests (IDF) in 2012. The day seeks to spread awareness among the masses about the importance of forests and tress. On this day the countries are directed to encourage and undertake national and international efforts to promote planting campaigns.
Miss Zartaj Gul who has recently been selected as Minister of state for Climate Change, has stressed the need to raise public awareness on the plantation.
She has been a part of the campaign on “Clean And Green Pakistan” held at Shakar Parian in Islamabad on Sunday, where she has addressed these issues. She expressed her views to spread awareness among the public about the importance of trees and forests.
She said, “The country is facing environmental degradation, decreasing space of forests, pollution and other issues due to injudicious use of natural resources.”
She further stated that “Federal government has started working on different projects to improve and conserve natural resources, including ten billion tree tsunami drive, improving underground water level and to overcome water and air pollution.”
