JEDDAH – Saudi authorities decided on Saturday that the opening of “Halal Nightclub” in the coastal city, will be stopped.
The Brand White Beirut & Dubai told The New Arab that a new nightclub would be opened in Jeddah.
The club’s opening was halted after a storm of protests erupted on social media against it. Followers who favored the idea of the club used the hashtag #JeddahDisco to tweet. Just non-alcoholic cocktails would have been served.
Followers opposing the club used the rival hashtag for expressing their frustration, which means: “I don’t accept forbidden acts on Jeddah beach”.
Social media wars were ended by the General Authority of Entertainment in Saudi Arabia. They declared that an investigation will be launched into the nightclub and added that it was not licensed and that legal proceedings were violated.
Ne-Yo, American singer was lined up by White for the club’s opening night, whilst entry fees varied between €71 to €222 per person.
The singer reportedly said that he was excited about his performance, but whilst on his way to the venue he was informed that the club was shut down.
