Finally, Pakistan discontinued free electricity for Wapda employees.

As per a notification from the Power Division, the federal government has opted to maintain the current monetized cost of complimentary electricity units for senior employees in power companies and the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda).

This decision, endorsed by the cabinet on October 26, applies to the monetization of free electricity units for employees of Wapda, ex-Wapda entities, which include distribution companies (Discos), generation companies (Gencos), National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC), and Power Information Technology Company (PITC).

Any modifications to the rates of monetized units will necessitate prior approval from the federal cabinet. The objective behind this move is to rationalize electricity consumption and alleviate the financial burden on the national exchequer. The compensation structure for senior employees will continue to be determined by the established monetized cost of free electricity units they were previously entitled.
