ICC T20 World Cup 2024: 20 Teams Officially Selected
Get excited for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024! This time, there will be 20 teams in the game, including newcomers like the USA and the host nation, West Indies. Selecting these teams involved looking at their past performance and going through regional competitions, making things more interesting.
West Indies and the USA snagged the first two spots because they’re hosting, and the top eight teams from the 2022 edition, like Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, got indirectly based on their past performance.
The journey to qualify had some surprises. Namibia, making a comeback from a not-so-great 2022, did well in the Africa Qualifier, along with Uganda, who surprised everyone by beating Zimbabwe and Kenya.
In the Americas, Canada won against Bermuda in a rain-shortened match. This is a big deal because it’s Canada’s first time in the Men’s T20 World Cup, bringing something fresh to the tournament.
The Asia Qualifier was interesting with Nepal and Oman making their way up. Oman beat Bahrain, and Nepal had a tough win against UAE. Nepal had something to prove after not doing well in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Papua New Guinea was a force to be reckoned with in the East Asia-Pacific region, winning all six matches and showing they meant business.
In Europe, Scotland and Ireland secured their spots since the Netherlands qualified automatically. The final match between Scotland and Ireland was intense, with high scores and standout performances.
With this mix of teams and a changed tournament format, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to bring us new stories, fierce competition, and moments we’ll remember in the world of cricket.
