Islamabad: According to the recent reports, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, who is the senior- most judge of the Supreme Court (SC) will be appointed as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Appointment of Justice Gulzar Ahmed
Sources revealed that the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi has issued a notification regarding the appointment of Justice Gulzar Ahmed. He will take oath as the 27th Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) on December 21.
It is pertinent to note that the current Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa will be retired on December 20.
It is also worth noticing that Justice Gulzar Ahmed will serve the nation until February 1, 2022.
The notification regarding his appointment was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Wednesday. According to the notification,
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (3) of Article 175-A read with Article 177 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the president is pleased to appoint Justice Gulzar Ahmed, the most senior judge of Supreme Court, as Chief Justice of Pakistan with effect from December 21, 2019.”
