Islamabad: According to the recent sources, the PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal was arrested by the NAB here on Monday.
The sources revealed that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested the PML-N leader regarding a corruption case in the Narowal Sports City.
As per reports from a NAB spokesman, the National Accountability Bureau has arrested the PML-N leader regarding the Narowal Sports City Complex case. On Monday, Ahsan Iqbal was summoned by a team of NAB professionals to inquire about the Narowal Sports City Complex case.
It is also quoted that Ahsan Iqbal will go through his physical remand here on Tuesday. The arrest warrant has been signed by the NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.
Furthermore, the professionals from NAB have also visited the Narowal Sports City project in order to collect records and data.
Here is Ahsan Iqbal’s post arrest statement while talking to the media persons, “Whatever Imran Khan Niazi wanted to do it because he could not pressurize the PML-N.”
Moreover, he criticized the PTI government for the character assassination of its rivals under the guise of NAB.
Narowal Sports City project
“Rs2.5 billion were spent on Narowal Sports City project then how come corruption of Rs6 billion was committed as alleged?” he asked.
“I proposed this project in 2009 when I was an opposition member during the PPP’s tenure,” he added.
The PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has criticized the arrest of Ahsan Iqbal saying that “It was a dormant project that Ahsan Iqbal revived during the PML-N’s rule.”
The PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif was also disappointed on the arrest of Ahsan Iqbal. He said, “The arrest of a person who fortified Pakistan-China friendship and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is deplorable.”
