NAB (National Accountability Bureau), Pakistan’s anti-graft organization made an announcement in a statement that it will not be pursuing cases against businessmen where income & sales tax is involved.
The Bureau added that both the bureaucracy & business community have portrayed their full confidence towards the organization. NAB is a department which is business friendly, whilst it is considering the business community to form Pakistan’s backbone in development.
Thus, NAB’s chairman took the decision not to initiate future cases linked to both sales- & income tax.
He stated further that every person’s self-respect within the business community will be ensured, whilst sufficient opportunity will be given to both the bureaucracy & other people for proving their innocence.
According to the press release, it was disclosed that a protocol of understanding was signed between Pakistan & China, ensuring the transparency of projects which resort under the CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor).
The Bureau’s performance was acclaimed as per the statements NAB has recovered an amount of Rs71 billion during the 2018-2019 fiscal year.
Presently over 1,210 corruption cases of NAB are trialed in Pakistan’s accountability courts. NAB’s chairman had ordered that early hearing pleas should be filed in multiple accountability courts. This will enable NAB to recover Rs900 billion from corrupt elements which will be deposited in the account of the National exchequer.
NAB stated that a 10 months’ timeframe has been prescribed for the conclusion of corruption cases. It added that a grading mechanism was designed for evaluating its employees’ annual performance.
Concluding NAB said the grading system’s positive results are pouring in already!
