NASA Detects Signal from Space 10 Million Miles Away

NASA Reaches Milestone in Deep Space Optical Communications Experiment.

In a noteworthy development within its Deep Space Optical Communications (DSOC) experiment, NASA has successfully received a signal from a spacecraft located 10 million miles away, utilizing a remote laser.

The ongoing experiment is exploring the potential of optical communications through lasers, with the goal of significantly boosting data rates, surpassing traditional radio signal capabilities by up to 100 times.

This successful test was conducted during NASA’s Psyche mission, currently on its way to investigate a distant asteroid.

The adoption of laser technology holds the promise of advancing communication capabilities for upcoming missions, including the ambitious goal of sending humans to Mars.
