Pakistan’s acclaimed filmmaker Jami Mahmood has recently opened up about his rape at the age of 13. Many celebrities came in his support cursing sexual harassers.
Among all, Osman Khalid Butt also came in Jami’s support.
He posted the details of how our society shies from discussing subjects like sexual harassment and abusive behaviors.
He took to his Twitter handle and wrote,
“In conversation over dinner three days ago, the subject of Jami and his recent, horrific rape allegations came up. What was astonishing to me was that every man on that table freely admitted to have been sexually harassed in one way or the other.”
Trigger Warning – some thoughts on the distinct context & connotations of male sexual assault in a society like ours, and a salute to Jami for the tremendous courage he has shown. pic.twitter.com/DZp0NvylJf

He went on explaining that “I say ‘shame’ because in a society like ours, where sexual harassment is already underreported, admitting that something like this happened to you makes you a lesser man.”
He further revealed the stereotypical behavior of our society. Men have been taught to be strict and full of strength. Emotionless and feeling less.
“Social norms have fed us so many lies about our gender: the dominant, the aggressive and the resilient sex – one act of sexual assault and these notions come tumbling down.”
He appreciated Jami for possessing such courage to discuss it publically.
“Your story has resonated with so many men, men who are finally ready to acknowledge the ordeals they went through.”
