Islamabad: As we are already familiar with the news of General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s three-year extension. A notification from the Prime Minister’s office was issued with the signatures of PM Imran Khan which reads that,
“Prime Minister Pakistan, PMO/232/M/SPM/19, Islamabad 19 August 2019 General Qamar Javed Bajwa is appointed Chief of Army Staff for another term of three years from the date of completion of current tenure. The decision has been taken in view of the regional security environment.”
Moreover, a formal notification regarding three years extension of General Qamar Javed Bajwa Chief of Army Staff will be soon issued under the signatures of President Dr. Arif Alvi.
Prominent legal expert Barrister Omar Sajjad mentioned that,
“What Prime Minister Imran Khan issued on Monday can be described as a press release, announcing Gen Bajwa’s re-appointment and not a formal notification because he can’t do so under the Constitution.”
A senior official, who has a long term experience with such correspondence has asserted that the form and format of the letter are not how they should have to be. It is missing some necessary details. He mentioned that it was not marked or addressed to anyone.
The letter should have read “the Prime Minister is pleased to advise the President to appoint General Qamar Javed Bajwa the Chief of the Army Staff.”
