During their third day of the visit, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Prince William and Kate Middleton visited Pakistan’s mountainous regions including Chitral and Kalash.
Warm welcome from the people of Chitral
They have received a warm welcome from the people of Chitral. They were presented with embroidered off-white gowns and regimental headgear of Chitral Scouts which features a distinctive feather on the top.
It is pertinent to note that Princess Diana was also gifted the same robe when she visited Pakistan back in 1991. Moreover, the young boys and girls who were all dressed up traditionally have given them a beautiful album that commemorates Princess Diana’s visit.
The royal couple has arrived in Chitral via Army helicopter. They have visited the Chiatibo Glacier near Broghil National Park. The glacier retreats every year around 10 meters due to high temperatures.
The royal couple discussed at length all the precautionary measures to avoid climate change. They raised awareness regarding the climate change and urged Pakistan to take necessary steps for it.
Prince William stated that “Communities vulnerable to change needed more awareness of climate change.”
The royal couple will further explore the scenic beauty of Pakistan’s northern areas.
