Punjab Declares School and Office Closure in Smog-Affected Cities

The Temporary Punjab Administration Declares School Shutdown in Response to Severe Smog Disruption in the Region, Especially Lahore.

In a Lahore press conference, the interim Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, announced the closure of all schools and offices in regions severely impacted by hazardous smog on Friday, November 10.

This directive applies to educational institutions and offices situated in Lahore division, Gujranwala, Nankana Sahib, and Wazirabad, specifically for this week.

Furthermore, markets will be closed on Saturday, and hotels, parks, and cinemas will observe closure on both Friday and Saturday, diverging from their usual Sunday closure.

A recent University of Chicago study has instilled significant worries among Lahore residents due to the alarming levels of smog in the city. The study highlights a marked decrease in life expectancy of about 7 years annually for the city’s populace. The report also stresses the adverse effects of smog on children, likening their exposure to current pollution levels to smoking the equivalent of 30 cigarettes daily.
