Quetta: Local News media reported that a blast went off near a police van which was parked in the Bacha Khan Chowk area in Quetta here on Tuesday. According to the officials’ statements, the explosion took place right near the police van.
According to the initial reports, at least five people have been reported to be dead while a large number of people got severe injuries.
The injured ones have been shifted to the City Trauma Centre where they have been given medical facility immediately.
The nature of the blast is still ascertained. Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdul Razzaq Cheema stated that it would be premature to determine the nature of the blast, whether it was carried by the suicide bomber or it was placed near City Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Jamaluddin, Sharfuddin, Ali Shah and Ainullah. While the injured ones as Naseebullah, Temoor, Muhammad Sadiq, Muhammad Farid, Abdul Ghaffar, Nasrullah, Ubaidullah, Shehroz Shakeel, Hasnain, Zia-ur-Rehman, Shafatullah, Asia, Mir Muhammad, Abdul Rehman, Abdul Wahid, Shahid Ahmed, Zia-ur-Rehman, Mir Ahmed, Nukhtaseebullah, Naseebullah, Nadir Ali, Sardar Khan, Muhammad Jabir, Nematullah, Naseebullah, Rehanullah, Nasrullah, Baz Muhammad, Hafeez Muhammadullah, Shahid Hussain, four-year-old Muhammad and six-year-old Mazkora.
Provincial police chief Mohsin Hassan Butt told AFP that,
“The target of the attack was a police van, which was parked outside a police station.”
“The death toll may increase, as a condition of some of those injured was critical.”
While a spokesman for the provincial government Liaqat Shahwani has also confirmed the attack. He told AFP that it took place during rush hour in a busy market inside the city.
“Most of those injured ones were the passerby.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned this terror attack in Quetta and expressed grief for the martyred. He has directed the Hospital authorities to provide best medical treatment to the injured ones and ensure their recovery.
