Samsung Unveils Latest Breakthrough in Smartphone RAM Technology for Unmatched Speed
Samsung has surpassed its own record and set a new benchmark in smartphone memory technology. Last year, SK Hynix unveiled the world’s fastest RAM for smartphones, LPDDR5T, achieving speeds of 9.6 Gbps. However, Samsung has now raised the bar even higher with its latest innovation, LPDDR5X RAM, reaching speeds of 10.7 Gbps, making it the fastest RAM available.
This development marks a significant improvement from Samsung’s previous LPDDR5X RAM, which operated at 8.5 Gbps, showcasing a remarkable 25% increase in performance. Moreover, Samsung’s adoption of a newer 12nm process enables the production of 32 GB packages, facilitating greater memory capacity within smaller chip sizes.
In addition to its speed enhancements, Samsung is positioning this new LPDDR5X RAM for AI applications, recognizing the demand for high-memory configurations in modern generative AI models like ChatGPT. This advancement not only benefits mobile devices but also holds promise for servers, offering improved power efficiency and extended low-power capabilities.
Expectations are high as Samsung gears up for mass production of the 10.7 Gbps LPDDR5X RAM in the latter half of 2024. With smartphones and other devices leveraging this cutting-edge technology expected to hit the market by year-end, Samsung is already setting its sights on developing the next-generation LPDDR6 RAM.
