Court extended Khaqan Abbasi remand

The Accountability Court extended Khaqan Abbasi’s remand till August 15


Islamabad: The Accountability Court on Thursday has extended the physical remand of the former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

He was arrested by NAB regarding the LNG case on July 18.

After his remand was expired, he has been presented before judge Bashir by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday.

The judge extended Khaqan Abbasi’s remand till August 15.

The judge didn’t even mind that 15th of August would be a holiday on account of Eid. He mentioned that it doesn’t bother him as he is ready to conduct hearing even on holiday.

Khaqan Abbasi is also directed to hire a lawyer for himself so that the case may proceed.

However, Khaqan Abbasi stated that he has made up his mind to defend himself.

The charge which was levelled against him by NAB includes the offence of corruption and corrupt practices under section 9 (a) of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999.

He is also accused of handing over a tender which was of Rs 220 billion to a company in which he himself was a shareholder.
