Peshawar: News officials in Peshawar revealed the exact number of the casualties when a boat sinks into the Tarbela Lake, Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.
According to the initial reports, at least four people have been reported to be dead while 21 people are still missing.
As soon as the incident happened, rescue teams rushed towards the destination to save people.
Local police official Zahid Ullah told AFP that,
“There were 38 people on the boat when the incident occurred and 13 people saved their lives by swimming to the shore.”
“We have retrieved four dead bodies from the river including two women and children,” he added.
He further declared that “The flow of the water is very fast the river is very deep which has dimmed the chances of survival, however, we will continue the rescue operation till the last individual is found.”
Senior police official Mohammad Ali Babakhel told AFP that,
“People only came to know about the incident when a second boat carrying passengers passed through the area.”
“The rescue operation is still going on but there are little chances of survival,” he mentioned.
Babakhel stated that people living in the northern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa used to carry boats in order to travel as the roads in that area are unpaved hence causing a lot of time.
