The earthquake has affected major parts of Azad Kashmir

Muzaffarabad: Yesterday’s earth quake has shaken the major parts of Pakistan especially the areas in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

According to the reports, a 5.8 magnitude earth quake has disturbed the human life after destroying the buildings and roads cracking which resulted in the death of almost 26 people which includes an army officer as well.

Moreover, the reports revealed that more than 700 people were injured during this terrible earth quake which lasts for almost 20 to 30 seconds.

According to the US Geological Survey reports, it struck 14 miles north of Jhelum, roughly 120 kms southeast of Islamabad, at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kms.

Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Riaz told the AFP that Mirpur suffered greatly,

“The quake was 10km (six miles) deep… The worst hit was Mirpur.”

The tremors were also felt in other major cities of Pakistan including Islamabad, Mirpur, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Mansehra, Gujrat, Chitral, Malakand, Multan, Shangla, Bajaur, Swat, Sahiwal, and Rahim Yar Khan.

However, most of the destruction happened in the areas of Mirpur, such as Afzalpur, Jatlan, and New City. Roads were cracked which swallow a lot of cars. The trees and electricity pools were uprooted and damaged respectively.

The videos and photos of the damaged caused in Azad Jammu & Kashmir went viral on social media.


A native living near Mirpur said that “We saw walls and the roof developing cracks and ceiling fans and other articles falling down, and we rushed out into an open field. I have never seen such a devastating earthquake inthis area in my life.”

Moreover, another man named Ramzan Ahmad, who has suffered a head injury and bleeding nose, also explained the destruction of the earth quake.

“I saw dozens of houses razed on my way to the hospital.”

“We all got injuries,” he said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan “has directed all government departments to leave no stone unturned in helping out victims of this natural disaster.”

“Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed his deep concern over the damage and directed all departments to provide immediate assistance,” said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

President Dr. Arif Alvi expressed sympathies and grief for the departed souls and pray for their peace.
