Uber is one of the world’s largest ride-hailing applications and is holding the largest market share in Pakistan. Uber is used very commonly through smartphones in our daily life and is providing rides right away.
Despite the fact that smartphone and cellular networks industry has developed a lot with time but Uber application consumes a specific amount of data and power, which is not possible for the users to spare as now Uber is targeting lower income consumer group in the form of Uber Rikshaw. These consumers mostly can’t afford expensive and high tech smartphones. So to boost-up the ride-hailing business, Uber has announced that they are coming up with the launch of a lighter version of the application so that all consumers could use the application on basic level smartphones and without using extra data of internet.
Moreover, less than 5MB download size of Uber Lite would enable those with basic smartphones and a conservative amount of data to book a ride and start their journey. Uber personnel also stated that “Instead of typing where you are, you can choose a nearby point of interest. Additionally, the app stores the city’s top places so that even when you are offline, no network is needed for them to appear.”
