Well Known Celebrities Who Adopted the Islamic Faith

These under-mentioned celebrities embraced the Islamic Faith and converted to live their lives as practicing Muslims.

Muhammad Yousuf

 Muhammad Yousuf, previously known as Yousuf Youhana, was born on 27 August 1974. He is a well known Pakistani cricketer and one of the most productive players in the national cricket team. He is renowned for being the backbone of the middle order of the Pakistani team. He was a Christian before he converted to Islam and changed his name to Muhammad Yousuf after he became a practicing Muslim since 2005.

 Muhammad Ali

A sports icon, Cassius Clay was born on 17 January 1942 and was baptized as a Christian. He is one of the most renowned boxing champions of all time an also won the gold medal at the Olympic Games at the age of 18 in Rome in 1960.

He met Malcolm X in 1962 when he was 20 years old. Malcolm was a member of a religious movement – Nation of Islam, which strived to improve the circumstances of the African Americans.

Malcolm introduced Cassius to the movement when he was 20 years old in 1962. As Malcolm X’s protégé Ali converted to the Islamic Faith and became known as Muhammad Ali.  During 2005 he started to practice the Sufism tradition of Islam.

Sharmila Tagore

Sharmila Tagore the Bollywood actress who won several National Film Awards as best actress was born on 8 December 1946 as a Hindu. In 1969 she got married to the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, a great cricketer who was an Indian Muslim. Before their marriage, she adopted the Islam Faith.

Her name changed to Begum Ayesha Sultana after she got married. The famous couple had three children together. Their son Saif Ali Khan is an actor, Saba Ali Khan a well-known jewelry designer while their only daughter Soha Ali Khan is an actress too.

 

Allah-Rakha Rahman (A R Rahman)

 He was born on 6 January 1967 growing up in a Hindu environment as Dileep Kumar. This Indian multiple award-winning music songwriter/singer/producer is world renowned for his music. In 2009 Time magazine included him in the list of one the world’s most influential people.

His mother was a member of a family belonging to the Islam Faith and was following the Sufism practice before she got married. When Rahman met Qadiri Islam during his sister’s severe illness, the values and ideals of the Islamic Faith attracted him and he converted to Islam.

Amrita Singh

Amrita Singh, Bollywood actress was born on 9 February 1958 into a Sikh-Muslim household. Betaab was her debut as a Bollywood actress in 1985. She acted in various hit films like Mard, Sunny and Saaheb and several more.

Since birth, she practiced the Sikh religion. Before she got married to Saif Ali Khan a Muslim actor, she converted to Islam. However, in 2004, they got divorced after a thirteen-year marriage. Currently, Saif is married to Kareena Kapoor Khan who did not adopt the Islamic Faith.
