Aftab Sultan resigned as NAB Chairman.

On Tuesday, Aftab Sultan stepped down from his role as the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), citing ‘personal reasons’.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed Aftab Sultan’s resignation in a brief statement. Mr. Sultan tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif due to personal reasons, as verified by the PMO.

The statement confirmed that Mr. Ex chairman had stepped down from his position as the Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

PM Appreaciate:

The statement added that PM Shehbaz Sharif “appreciated the services” of Aftab Sultan and “Praised him for his honesty and integrity.

The Prime Minister agreed to accept Mr. Sultan’s resignation, albeit reluctantly, upon his insistence.

The former director general of the Intelligence Bureau had been appointed to as NAB chief by the federal cabinet in July last year.

Mr. Aftab, a retired Police Service of Pakistan officer who has a reputation of being honest, earlier served as IGP Punjab and the commandant of the National Police Academy.

Aftab Sultan was appointed as the head of the Intelligence Bureau in 2013 by PML-N supremo and former premier Nawaz Sharif, in recognition of his reputation as an upright official.

Ex-IB Chief:

After serving as the IB chief since June 7, 2013, he retired on April 3, 2018.

Aftab Sultan, a law graduate from Punjab University, holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the University of Cambridge, and a Master of Science (MSc) in jurisprudence/legal studies from the University of Edinburgh.

Former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani of the PPP appointed Aftab Sultan, giving him the unique distinction of serving with two different governments.

In addition to his appointment by PML-N supremo and former premier Nawaz Sharif. He has also served under former premiers Raja Pervez Ashraf and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

During his time as a senior police officer deployed in Sargodha during the Musharraf regime, Sultan had refused to assist in the 2002 referendum, leading to his demotion to the rank of an officer on special duty.
