Pakistan achieved several undesirable records against Australia today.

During the ICC World Cup 2023 match in Bengaluru, Pakistan’s performance in the field during the first innings against Australia was less than stellar. The opening duo of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh for Australia displayed an outstanding show, hammering the Pakistani bowlers at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Together, Warner and Marsh established a remarkable partnership, accumulating 259 runs for the first wicket. This not only marked Australia’s highest-ever opening partnership in World Cup history but also represented the first time Pakistan conceded more than a 200-run partnership in World Cup matches. This opening stand also ranks as Australia’s second-highest for any wicket in ODIs and the second-highest ever achieved by any team in this format.

David Warner’s impressive innings of 163 stood out, setting a new record for the highest individual score against Pakistan in World Cup cricket, surpassing Andrew Symonds’ 143 in 2003. The combination of this partnership, along with the individual scores and consistent boundary-hitting, demonstrated Australia’s dominance.

The Pakistani bowlers struggled to contain the assault, and despite Mitchell Marsh eventually being dismissed for 121, the damage had already been done. Consequently, Australia became the team to score the most runs in an innings against Pakistan in World Cup history, surpassing Sri Lanka’s 344-run total earlier in the tournament.

Australia maintained their unchanged lineup from their previous victory against Sri Lanka, while Pakistan made a change by replacing leg-spinner Shadab Khan with Usama Mir. Up to this point in the tournament, Pakistan had secured two wins and suffered one defeat, whereas Australia secured their first win after two opening losses, making this match a memorable one in the ICC World Cup 2023.
