Pakistan Passport Rules 2025: New Reforms to Stop Illegal Immigration
ISLAMABAD — In a bold move to address the growing challenges of organized begging and unlawful immigration, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced a new set of stringent measures, including stricter passport issuance procedures and the immediate blocking of passports belonging to deported individuals, according to ARY News.
The announcement came during Minister Naqvi’s high-level visit to the Directorate of Immigration and Passports, where he led a key meeting. The session was attended by several top officials, including Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Secretary Interior Muhammad Khurram Agha, DG FIA Riffat Mukhtar Raja, and DG Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi.
New Passport Rules to Tackle Organized Crime and Illegal Migration
Speaking at the meeting, Naqvi emphasized that the new passport regulations aim to serve as a powerful deterrent against human trafficking networks and organized begging rings.
“These revised procedures will play a crucial role in stopping illegal immigration and eradicating professional begging,” Naqvi stated. “They also help project a better image of Pakistan on the international front.”
Talal Chaudhry supported the move, noting that these firm steps will reflect Pakistan’s serious commitment to upholding law and order.
“This initiative sends a strong and positive message to the world that Pakistan is taking immigration control and public safety very seriously,” he said.
Blocking of Passports for Deported Individuals
As part of the crackdown, Naqvi issued a strict directive to ensure 100% compliance with the policy to block passports of individuals deported from other countries. This is expected to close loopholes often exploited by repeat offenders involved in illegal migration schemes.
Upgraded Passport Facilities and New Technology
Following the meeting, Minister Naqvi inspected the installation of six new Machine Readable Passport (MRP) units and two state-of-the-art e-passport machines. These upgrades, provided in collaboration with a German technical team, are expected to dramatically improve the efficiency of the passport issuance process.
“With these advanced systems now in place, the capacity and speed of the passport office will increase substantially,” Naqvi noted during the inspection.
DG Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi also briefed the attendees on upcoming improvements to the passport services, including the launch of a citizen-friendly mobile application designed to simplify and streamline passport-related processes for the public.
