A public holiday has been officially declared for the upcoming general elections in Pakistan.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially announced a nationwide public holiday on February 8th, 2024, in anticipation of the upcoming General Elections.

According to an official notification released today, the Election Commission has ensured that voters across the country have sufficient time to participate in the electoral process by declaring the public holiday.

Prior to this announcement, the Provincial Cabinet of Punjab had already taken proactive steps by extending the holiday period for all educational institutions in the province.

Starting from February 6th to February 9th, all public and private schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will remain closed.

This extension effectively provides a six-day break, considering the closure of educational institutions from February 5th to February 9th.

February 5th is recognized as Kashmir Day, a public holiday, while February 4th falls on a Sunday, traditionally observed as a non-working day.

These coordinated efforts by both the Election Commission and the Provincial Cabinet of Punjab emphasize the importance of creating an environment conducive to democratic participation.

By granting citizens the necessary time and opportunities to engage in the electoral process, authorities aim to uphold the principles of democracy and ensure a fair and transparent election.

With the General Elections scheduled for February 8th, all attention is focused on the electorate to exercise their democratic rights responsibly and contribute to the democratic landscape of Pakistan.
