The ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for April 2023 has been won by an outstanding opening batter who showcased remarkable form with some sensational performances.
Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan has been named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April, surpassing tough competition from Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya and New Zealand’s Mark Chapman.
Fakhar Zaman spearheaded Pakistan’s remarkable second-highest ODI run-chase in Rawalpindi. With an unbeaten knock of 180, the opener played a pivotal role in chasing down a target of 337 against New Zealand, securing a 2-0 series lead for Pakistan.
Fakhar Zaman’s extraordinary innings included 17 boundaries and six towering sixes, propelling Pakistan to a thrilling victory in a high-scoring match. They sealed the win with 10 balls to spare.
In a remarkable display of consistency, Fakhar Zaman achieved his second century in back-to-back matches during April. His innings of 117 off 114 balls was instrumental in Pakistan’s successful chase of 289 in the first game at the same venue.
Fakhar Zaman took charge of the run-chase right from the beginning and remained at the crease until the 43rd over, guiding Pakistan towards victory. His exceptional performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Fakhar Zaman began the month with a quickfire 47 in the first T20I against New Zealand in Lahore, contributing to Pakistan’s resounding 88-run win. Although he didn’t perform as well in the subsequent two T20Is, Fakhar found his stride in ODIs, a format where he has consistently excelled.
With 3148 ODI runs to his name, Fakhar Zaman holds an impressive average of 49.71 and a striking strike-rate of nearly 95 throughout his career spanning 67 matches. The talented Pakistan opener expressed his immense delight at securing the prestigious award, considering it a great honor.
