Sethi fires back at Afridi over WC comment
Sethi, PCB chairman, has responded to Afridi’s criticism about Pakistan boycotting the World Cup in India due to the Asia Cup venue issue.
Afridi criticizes PCB for refusing to go to India, urging them to approach the situation positively and play in the tournament. He believes winning would not only be a victory for Pakistan but a strong message to BCCI.
He responds, stating that Afridi, himself, or BCCI’s secretary, Jay Shah, do not have the authority to decide Pakistan’s World Cup participation.
Najam Sethi, clarifies that the World Cup decision rests with the respective governments, not Afridi, Jay Shah, or himself, as he told BBC.
Sethi stresses that PCB’s participation in the World Cup depends on the Pakistani government’s assurance of safety in India. If given the green light, Pakistan will definitely take part, he emphasized.
Governments hold the final decision, and PCB will assess all factors before deciding on Pakistan’s World Cup participation, contingent upon satisfactory security conditions.
