“Wasim Akram is not happy with how Haris Rauf played in the 2023 ODI World Cup.”
Wasim Akram, the former Pakistani fast bowler renowned for his swing bowling skills, pointed out the weaknesses in Haris Rauf’s performance following a significant defeat to arch-rivals India during the ongoing World Cup 2023.
During a discussion on a local sports show regarding Haris Rauf, Wasim Akram highlighted Rauf’s shortcomings, emphasizing that relying solely on pace is insufficient for taking wickets.
Wasim Akram remarked, “While pace may work on occasion, it’s unlikely to yield wickets consistently against top-level batsmen on these pitches. To be effective, you need to outfox them and build pressure by delivering dot balls, especially when the field is set wide.”
He further noted, “One issue with Haris is that although he manages to take wickets, he tends to leak too many runs due to his inconsistency in maintaining the right length.”
Additionally, Akram also discussed Shaheen Afridi’s performance in the World Cup thus far, expressing his belief that Shaheen has faced some misfortune. He mentioned Shaheen’s significant injury from the previous year, which required an extended recovery period. Nevertheless, Akram expressed satisfaction with Shaheen’s recent performance, particularly his crucial dismissals of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the match against India.
Looking ahead, the Pakistani cricket team, known as the Green Shirts, is scheduled to take on Australia in their next World Cup fixture, which is set to take place on Friday, October 20th, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
