Major Change in Pakistani Education: New Matric Subject Streams Coming in 2025

Students entering Grade 9 in Rawalpindi next year will have more subject choices than before. From the 2025–26 academic session, government and private schools across the city are offering six new streams for Matric students.

The goal is to give students more freedom to choose a path that matches their interests and career plans. The new streams are:

  • Natural Sciences
  • Computer Science
  • Health Science
  • Agriculture
  • Fashion Designing
  • Arts

Alongside these, all students will still study five core subjects: Translation of the Quran, English, Urdu, Islamiat, and Pakistan Studies.

Students moving up from Grade 8 have been given three days to discuss their options with their families and select their stream. Schools plan to start the new academic groups on April 11, 2025.

This change is aimed at helping students find their strengths early and prepare for higher studies or professional careers in areas they care about. Whether someone wants to work in science, IT, health, design, or the arts, this update gives them a head start.
