FROM CHIEF TO FIELD MARSHAL: GEN ASIM MUNIR REACHES THE MILITARY’S HIGHEST RANK
A move that echoes through the halls of the military, the federal government has approved the decision to promote Chief of Army Staff Hafiz Syed Asim Munir to the rank of field marshal.
The promotion is the result of the dynamic leadership of COAS during the recent military escalation between Pakistan and India, followed by the operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, a response to India’s operation sindhoor.
The first person who received the rank of air chief marshal was Ayub Khan.
COAS started his career back in 1986. He was commissioned into the 23rd Frontier Force Regiment. Over time, he took on tougher and more important roles, especially in intelligence and operations, steadily moving up the ladder.
He served in both the intelligence agencies, MI and ISI. His time as ISI chief is remembered for keeping things stable inside the country and pushing hard against terrorism.
His steady approach and timely response during the Pak-India conflict define their capabilities. As parliament approves his promotion as a recognition of his impact on the situation.
He is the second one in the history of the military to receive this designation.
